Hi, I'm Chaitanya Joshi. I am a Graduate Student working on Nonlinear Optics in Prof. Alexander Gaeta's Research Group at Columbia University. I've included some additional info in the tabs below. Feel free to get in touch with me if there's something we can/must(!) talk about.

I have been an avid quizzer for nearly all my life. Starting late into my primary school years right through to the trivia nights that I attend here in Ithaca while I work at Cornell University towards my doctorate.

During my undergraduate studies I was part of the team that represented the IIT, Guwahati at the national finals of Tata Crucible (a business quiz for university students in India) as Guwahati City winners in consecutive years 2010 and 2011 among other major quizzes in India. I also was part of the team that finished 5th at Nihilanth (The Pan-IIT-IIM Quiz Fest) in 2011 at IIM Calcutta.

Swimming and WaterPolo

I've been swimming since the age of about seven. I used to swim competitively for my High School team for a few years. After about a three year hiatus from competitive swimming I took it up again during my undergraduate years representing IIT, Guwahati at the Inter-IIT Sports Meets in 2007, 2008, and 2010 held at Mumbai, Chennai, and Roorkee.

During this time I also took up Water Polo and grew to enjoy it. However, we were not the best of teams at the Inter-IITs in the years I was part of the team. Over the time I have competed in the pool I have primarily taken part in the Backstroke events both in the individual events and in Medley relay teams.

At IIT Guwahati, thanks to a bunch of inspiring individuals who were responsible for my first Alcheringa in 2008, I got drawn into being a part of the organisation team. Alcheringa is the annual cultural festival hosted by IIT Guwahati. I was part of the Sponsorship Team in my freshman and sophomore years and was responsible for the task of convincing local sponsors to be a part of the festival. In my junior year I was the Manager of the Media Team and a part of the Core Organising Team for Alcheringa.

I've been following football (soccer to some of you) 'properly' since I was about eleven. I support Manchester United with something bordering on fanaticism. Although I am not the most skilled of players of the game on an actual pitch, nothing beats the feeling of playing on a muddy field with your friends on a rainy day during the monsoon back home in India.
